WHOA: PROTEST THE HERO’S RODY WALKER RELEASES COUNTRY SONGS

Winger shirt FTW

Other than some of the really old stuff that members of my family used to play when I was a young ‘un, like Hank Williams (this one, not this one) and Patsy Cline, I don’t go in much for country. So I do not claim to be an expert on the genre. I know that Shania Twain married Mutt Lange and I know that Billy Ray Cyrus is kinda famous again because his daughter is jailbait or something like that. But I don’t think the Twain-Cyrus Dynasty is really country any more than, say, Limp Bizkit is really metal, are they?

Okay, modesty topos out of the way, coming to the point — Protest the Hero’s Rody Walker has apparently recorded a bunch of country songs, and for the most part I think they’re pretty good. But I don’t write under the name “Garth Brooksowitz” for a reason.

You can listen to all the available tunes after the jump; as far as I can tell, they are completely sincere, not ironic send-ups of country songs. The first one, “Never Coming Home,” is far and away my favorite. Like I said, the country I really know/like is mostly old timey stuff, and “Home” definitely fits that bill the most snugly. But it’s all catchy. I dunno if I’d listen to it over and over and over again, but if it was, like, playing in the Neilstein Wing of the MS Mansion when I visited for dinner one night, I’d probably tap my foot at least a little bit.

ANYWAY, the songs:
