BEATBOXER REGGIE WATTS COVERS VAN HALEN’S “PANAMA” WITH HIS MOUTH

0

The A.V. Club is running a fun little series where they invite various artists to come into their studio to cover one song from a list of 25 selected by their editors. The artist gets to choose which song from the list they’d like to cover, with one catch: if someone’s already covered a song, that songs gets crossed off and is no longer eligible.

We’re not sure whether the list had slim pickins by the time beatboxer Reggie Watts got into the studio or whether he just decided to have some fun, but Van Halen’s “Panama” is certainly an odd but entertaining choice for a guy who uses his mouth to make all the sounds. It’s also not clear whether Watts didn’t know the song well or was just taking the piss, but in either case his rendition of this classic is awesome; instead of porting David Lee Roth’s lyrics, he lays down a beat then proceeds to freestyle about Panama — the country — canals, Central America and all.
