IS BASSIST HENRY SELVA OUT OF THE HUMAN ABSTRACT?

The good news is, The Human Abstract are getting ready to tour Europe, very possibly with vocalist Travis Richter back in the fold. And the bad news is, because nothing is ever straight-forward with this band, it would appear that bassist Henry Selva will not be on the trek.

On June 13, Selva updated his Facebook page to show that he works at “Getting ready for Audio Engineering School.” Then, today, he posted the following two comments on his wall (please note that the second one is a response to someone else’s comment, and I’ve deleted all the bits that are irrelevant to Selva’s position in THA):

Vince noted that Selva may have meant to have written “ALL my eggs are no longer in THA’s basket,” in which case he may not be out of the band. But this does make it clear that he won’t be on their upcoming tour.

And if he is out for good, well… this seems like another clear cut case of a musician deciding they want to abandon the shitty touring lifestyle for a more stable one, and it’s always hard to blame a guy for coming to such a conclusion. And if anyone was gonna split from the group at this point, it was bound to be Selva — after all, he was the member to start the break-up rumblings earlier this year, and his statement seems to have angered at least one other member of the band.

Still, I hope Selva is still in the band, this is all a bummer, because he’s great bass player and performer. We’ll let you know more as soon as we do.
