HIGH ON FIRE NOT PLAYING HEAVY MTL OR HEAVY T.O. AFTER ALL

What a long, strange week it’s been for High on Fire — and their fans. After the band dropped out of this year’s Mayhem Fest so vocalist/guitarist Matt Pike could seek treatment for alcohol rehabilitation, the organizers of the upcoming Heavy MTL and Heavy T.O. festivals proudly announced that HoF would still be playing their gigs, which were “the only shows not cancelled [by the band]!” That struck some fans as being a bad idea, given that Pike would be just two months into the rehabilitation process by that time.

And I guess ultimately someone in the High on Fire camp agreed — ’cause now the folks running those Canadian fests have issued the following statement:

“HIGH ON FIRE will also be forced to miss Heavy MTL and Heavy T.O as front man and guitarist Matt Pike enters treatment for alcohol rehabilitation. The award winning power trio (also featuring drummer Des Kensel and bassist Jeff Matz) will put its scheduled touring plans on hold indefinitely as Pike takes the necessary steps towards regaining his health. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

Again, that’s a bummer, as High on Fire absolutely decimate fans. But it’s obviously what’s best for Pike, which fans should understand, unless they’re  completely sociopathic ninnies. Hopefully Pike will get all the help he needs and be back in front of crowds, playing better than ever in due time.
