JEFF LOOMIS IS ENTERING THE STUDIO NEXT WEEK TO RECORD “DEATH METAL TYPE STUFF”

Jeff Loomis released Plains of Oblivion on April 9th, only two and a half months ago, and he’s getting ready to head out on the MetalSucks-sponsored Intrinsic Tour also featuring The Contortionist, Chimp Spanner and 7 Horns 7 Eyes. But that’s not stopping Loomis from returning to the studio — next week! — to knock out a few more tunes, allegedly in a heavier, more death metal-y style.

Loomis’ touring rhythm guitarist Jeff Nurre (also of Shaded Enmity) contacted MetalSucks directly to offer the following update:

After we got off our last tour with Periphery and Protest the Hero, Jeff and I got to talking about how it would be cool to do some heavier death metal type stuff with some more aggressive vocals. So Jeff and I will be hitting the studio next week with Producer Engineer Aaron Smith (7 Horns 7 Eyes) who also recorded and mixed Jeff’s latest record Plains of Oblivion. We will be playing some of these songs on our upcoming tour with The Contortionist, so we hope to see some of you out there.

The Loomis + Aaron Smith combo has already proven to be a winning one, so we’re sure these tracks will sound awesome. And the idea of a more death metal-focused project from Loomis is incredibly alluring. Nurre also revealed that he’ll be handling vocals on these songs. Will they be released immediately, on an EP later this year, or held indefinitely? We’ll update you as soon as we know more.
