NEW MASERATI TRACK “THE ELIMINATOR” JAMS JUST LIKE OLD MASERATI

As I predicted, forecasts of Maserati’s demise following the tragic death of centerpiece/drummer Jerry Fuchs were woefully premature. Fuchs’ marks on the band (starting when he joined in 2004) was so indelible that their sound and trajectory were forever altered. For proof just listen to “The Eliminator,” the first track to be released from the band’s first entirely Fuchs-less album Maserati VII, streaming now at Pitchfork. Driving beat, pulsating rhythms, Gilmour-esque delay guitar soundscapes… sounds like fuckin’ Maserati to me. All this is certainly not to belittle Fuchs and his influence on the band; on the contrary, it was so great that even his untimely death couldn’t shake Maserati back down to reality.

Maserati VII comes out on October 2nd via Temporary Residence.
