YOU DON’T HAVE TO LOOK AT THE SECOND TRAILER FOR NERGAL’S BOOK, BUT YOU CAN IF YOU WANT TO
A second trailer for Nergal’s upcoming autobiography, Sacrum Profanum, has been released, and it’s no less confounding than the first. Surely, this is the most somber, poetically photographed portrayal of a man checking his Facebook page ever created.
Something else I find interesting about this trailer (besides the fact that Nergal is apparently unaware that swearing is not a common trait limited to Behemoth fans) is the way he kisses (what I believe is) an inverted crucifix on his necklace before taking the stage, much as a Catholic might kiss a regular, non-inverted (verted?) crucifix. The act is obviously a deliberate bastardization of certain religious beliefs, and while it’s not at all out of character for Nergal to take a strong anti-God stance (duh), I wonder why he would imbue any symbol with so much power; I would have guessed that he’s wholly anti-organized religion period, and would never kiss any inanimate object for luck or whatever, even if it was to be provocative.
Of course, I’m talking about a video of man putting on a costume while adoring hordes chant the name of his band in the background, so maybe it’s disingenuous to assert that Nergal sees all organized religion as a bad thing.
ANYWAY, here’s the trailer:
Sacrum Profanum will be released in Poland next month; Polish speakers can pre-order it here. Translations in other languages have yet to be announced.
