Christian Alvestam - Self 2.0

Last we heard from ex-Scar Symmetry frontman / vocalist savant Christian Älvestam he was growling for brutal death metal troupe Miseration. Today we get a taste of Christian’s new solo EP, Self 2.0, and as the title implies it couldn’t be any more different from everything in his vast body of work. Mr. “Death Jovi” himself has always been a dynamic presence behind the microphone, but his solo EP takes that trait to a whole new level.

“Once Adreamed” — posted below via RockBladet — is actually one of the most “metal” songs on Self 2.0, which is saying a lot because it’s really not metal at all. The song plays more like a Michael Bolton of Kenny G. tune than anything else — sax solos! — but oh hey, there’s Christian’s syrupy croon and a hint of metal melody to ground it in reality. Here’s what Christian said about his influences on this EP:

Well, if you, like me, dig bands/artists such as Michael Cretu (Sandra/Enigma, etc.,) Krister Linder (Grace/Dive, etc.,) 30 Seconds To Mars, Mute Math, Nephew, Dead Letter Circus, Pendulum, Mew, The Radio Dept. and so on, chances are “Self 2.0” may strike your fancy!

Self 2.0 will be released on October 19th via all major digital outlets.
