Scale the Summit 2012

Good news for fans of instru-metal: according to an official press release from Prosthetic Records, Scale the Summit are working on a new album!

Both 2009’s Carving Desert Canyons and 2011’s The Collective placed on my year-end lists (2009 here, 2011 here), so this news obviously makes me extremely excitebike. Most importantly, the band grew leaps and bounds from album to album — seemingly addressing all the criticisms in one fell swoop — and I certainly expect this incredibly talented group of musicians to do so again.

This will be the first album written and recorded with new bassist Mark Michell, who replaced founding member Jordan Eberhardt earlier this year. I had the opportunity to see Michell play with the band when they toured with Trioscapes this past September, and he’s certainly no slouch… but I honestly do not know how much Eberhardt contributed to the creative process in the past. Either way, should be interesting!

The writing has only begun — no recording yet — so a release before the second half of 2013 is unlikely. We will, of course, keep you informed.

In the meantime, the band is publishing one playthrough video per week of songs from The Collective. Follow along at their YouTube channel.
