Isis Clean Godflesh’s Streets
The now-defunct Isis have released a cover of Godflesh’s “Streetcleaner,” which will appear Temporal, an upcoming CD/DVD collection of rarities, remixes, and videos. And it’s the best kind of cover, too — one which maintains enough elements of the original to be recognizable, but isn’t just a rote copy. Most noticeable is that Isis’ guitar are even filthier and more massive than Godflesh’s were, and Justin Broadrick’s electronic-demon voice has been traded for Aaron Turner’s battery-acid-gargle screams. In other words, Isis’ “Streetcleaner” is to Godflesh’s “Streetcleaner” as Ivan Drago is to Rocky… ultimately, nothing beats the original, but the new model sure is fucking intimidating!
