Fear, Emptiness, Decibel: Sepultura’s Beneath the Remains Enters the Decibel Hall of Fame!

Before there were blogs there were these things called magazines, and the only metal magazine we still get excited about reading every month is DecibelHere’s managing editor Andrew Bonazelli…

I’m sure that, at some point over the last 100 issues, we’ve asked you guys what artist most warrants a second album inducted into the Decibel Hall of Fame. Bear in mind that—despite a surplus of obvious, slam dunk candidates—this means a story we can actually manufacture; it was hard enough nailing down …And Justice for All for #50, the one all-members-alive Metallica album that even remotely qualifies.

While responses to that question have varied wildly (totally understandable), it really comes down to what our fearless leader Mudrian thinks is best for the mag. In the case of honoring Sepultura’s Beneath the Remains, his rationale was simple: “I personally felt we fucked up inducting Roots all those years ago.” And, really, what can you say? Pretty tough for any self-respecting thrash fan to argue that Roots is a better record than BTR (although a non-self-respecting Korn fan may disagree). So, we asked Chris Dick to rectify the oversight. And the Dickman came through big time, assembling shitloads of great anecdotes about Sep’s Roadrunner romance: particularly Max Cavalera getting mugged on his first trip to NYC, failing to properly speed-walk next to the inimitable Bori Krgin. At least he got to meet Harley from Cro-Mags in Times Square shortly thereafter. What a country.

Anyway, you know where to find it. Hope to meet some of you guys at the 100th Issue Show on Saturday. (Just kidding—don’t talk to me; anyone else you recognize from the masthead is fine, though.) It’s totally sold out; I wish I could pull a Willy Wonka and hand out a golden ticket right now, but if Charlie wasn’t savvy enough to buy his in advance, he’s doomed to a life of sniffing his grandparents’ Dutch oven remnants in his tenement. All you little Gloops, Salts, Beauregards and Teavees get to enjoy this, though:
