Anthrax are in a Rush

Anthrax covering Rush is basically my worst nightmare, because I find Geddy Lee’s vocals to be like nails on a chalkboard, and I find Joey Belladonna’s vocals to be only slightly more tolerable, and so when you when you combine the two, WELCOME TO FUCK YOU CITY. When Belladonna hits the high notes (and in what universe can Joey Belladonna actually hit those notes???), I had to seriously consider self-immolation.

But I know many of you do and will disagree with me and so hip-hip-hooray, you can listen to Anthrax’s cover of Rush’s “Anthem” here. It features one of the last guitar solos that Rob Caggiano will ever record with the group. I’ve commemorated the occasion by Photoshopping him out of the above picture. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I just can’t help but be an asshole.

“Anthem” will appear on Anthrax’s upcoming covers EP, Anthems, the rest of which I will hopefully enjoy more. It comes out on March 18 and also features renditions of Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak,” AC/DC’s “TNT,” Cheap Trick’s “Big Eyes,” Boston’s “Smokin’,” and “Keep On Runnin’” by Journey. Anthrax will headline this year’s Metal Alliance tour starting in March, with Shadows Fall’s Jon Donais handling lead guitars.
