Jam This New Zozobra Track Right Now!
Zozobra are finally back. It only took one year for Zozobra to crank out sophomore effort Bird of Prey after releasing their debut, Harmonic Tremors, in 2007, but we’ve been waiting for album #3 from mastermind Caleb Scofield (Cave In, Old Man Gloom) ever since. And it has finally arrived.
A press release bills Savage Masters as Zozobra’s “most aggressive and straightforward release to date,” and having heard the new album in full I’d have to agree. Scofield’s long-time Cave In bandmates Adam McGrath (guitars) and J.R. Conners (drums) lent him an assist this time around, but the project is most definitely still Scofield’s baby; just listen to the fuzzed out bass that opens new track “Black Holes” and the red-lined vocals and breakneck pace that dominate it throughout. Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Pelican, a million other awesome bands) produced and recorded the effort, rounding out the A-lister team. Stream “Black Holes” below:
