Fifteen Years of New England Metal and Hardcore Fest in One Video

0

NEMF 2013

Hard to believe that the New England Metal and Hardcore Fest has been going on for fifteen fucking years, but ’tis true; next week in Worcester the festival will be celebrating its crystal anniversary. The thing’s an institution at this point, and you can set your clock to the fact that every April in Massachusetts there’s gonna be a two (or three) day throwdown featuring some of the best metal and hardcore bands from all over the country.

To celebrate the festival’s organizers have put out a fifteen-minute documentary looking back at the festival’s history, featuring interviews with members of prominent bands involved, a look into the behind-the-scenes planning with festival promoter Scott Lee, live footage and more. A fitting tribute to one of the few real metal festivals we’ve got here in America.

The NEMHF organizers didn’t ask to interview me for this documentary (those scoundrels!), but if they had I would’ve recounted the time in 2008 (?) when a Grateful Dead convention occupied the venue down the block, resulting in an amusing but never contentious mix of metalheads and Dead Heads in the streets of Worcester. And THE most righteous open-air drug market I’ve ever witnessed in my life in the ajoining parking lot.
