Altar of Plagues - Teethed Glory & Injury

I was late to the Altar of Plagues party. But better late than never, right?

Praising their 2011 release, Mammal, our own Grim Kim aptly described Altar of Plauges’ music as “Gorgeous, expansive,  windswept, post-everything black metal.” I haven’t heard all of their new release, Teethed Glory & Injury, but what I have heard suggests that the band has expanded upon this sound while staying true to the elements that made them interesting in the first place. “Scald Scar Of Water,” the new AoP track now streaming on NPR, is like a cross between Instinct:Decay-era Nachtmystium, Godflesh, and the band’s label mates in Portal; as both the song and album’s title would suggest, it’s a poetic portrayal of vicious, ugly desperation.

If that sounds appealing — and I certainly hope that it does — go here to check out the song. Teethed Glory & Injury comes out April 30 on Profound Lore. You can watch the video for another new track from the album, “God Alone,” below.
