Good news for fans of good music: both Red Fang and Doomriders are in the studio right now working on new records. With 8.5 months left in 2013 I’m optimistic that we’ll get new music from both before the year is out.

Red Fang posted the above photo on their Facebook page with the following caption:

Actual jams being capured right now. New record is happening!

I guess the implication is that they’re recording to analog tape, a process that feels a bit unnecessary and pretentious in 2013, but I love Red Fang so I’ll let it slide. Whatever gets those creative juices flowing, ya know? I look forward to more groovy jamz from Red Fang and some more of the absolute bestest music videos being made today.

Meanwhile, Doomriders, the Boston outfit helmed by Converge’s Nate Newton, are finished with the recording process and have already moved onto mastering. They’ve posted the following update:

Hello Friends! Life has been crazy for the 4 of us as of late (especially the past 24 hours, our hearts go out to all victims and loved ones of people involved in yesterday’s tragedy) but we just wanted to give you a quick update. We are currently mastering our new record with Nick Zampiello at New Alliance. We will hopefully have a full announcement with all the info regarding the new album very soon. In the meantime be sure to get your tickets for our show with Boris at the Brighton Music Hall on May 5th. Come and SHOUT IT OUT LOUD WITH US!!!

The 2009 Doomriders album Darkness Comes Alive was a bit of a let-down for me after 2005’s stellar Black Thunder but I’m certainly willing to give the band another shot; their infectious Thin Lizzy-tinged metal n’ roll is hard to resist. To my knowledge Cave In drummer John-Robert Conners is no longer involved in the band, which is a bummer, but we’ll see.
