A Pale Horse Named Death - Lay My Soul to Waste

If you missed A Pale Horse Named Death’s last album then you missed out. Like me, you probably rolled your eyes when you heard that former Type O Negative (and Life of Agony) drummer Sal Abruscato had started a new band, and was singing and playing guitar in it no less. Tired old metal vet steps out from behind the kit to front new band? Yawn.

Boy was I wrong. And Hell Will Follow Me was a surprisingly solid debut, and new album Lay My Soul to Waste offers more of the same but with even better songs. Given Abruscato’s pedigree it’s not surprising A Pale Horse Named Death borrow sonically from Type O, but the pacing and tonality are much more akin to Alice in Chains at their darkest and sludgiest. The memorable songs will get stuck in your head from listen one. Here’s “Shallow Grave” from the new album, via Revolver:

Lay My Soul to Waste comes out on May 21 via Steamhammer/SPV. Tell us what you think of the new song in the comments.
