Ghost Might Tour with Avenged Sevenfold and Deftones This Fall
The PRP is reporting on a “strong rumor” that Avenged Sevenfold, Deftones and Ghost are planing a fall tour. The site didn’t name a source for the rumor, but they’ve always been right on the money with this kind of tour hearsay in the past.
If true, I think this lineup gives an idea of what direction Ghost, their management and their record label are taking the band: more mainstream. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Ghost have always been a band with a potentially wide appeal, and now with a new album out on a major label they find themselves in the proper position to exploit that potential to its fullest. Metalheads will probably scoff at the lineup (definitely at Avenged Sevenfold, although Deftones seem to pass the acceptance litmus test), but I’d argue that Ghost were never really a metal band anyway so much as a band with a metal aesthetic/presentation that sings about metal subject matter. This lineup makes perfect sense.
In any case: would definitely go to this tour! Ghost are Ghost, and though I haven’t really ever been drinking the Ghost Kool-Aid I dig their music enough and would be curious to see what kind of stage show they bring for the big venues this tour will undoubtedly hit. Deftones are great live and I wouldn’t mind seeing them again, although it feels like they’ve been a bit over-exposed tour-wise of late. And longtime readers of MetalSucks know that we are huge fans of Avenged Sevenfold. I haven’t seen them in years and would absolutely love to again.
See you in the pit. Or, um, the hard, plastic arena seat.
