Kriss Chino

Kriss Kross’ Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly will now miss the bus forever and ever and ever: the thirty-four year-old former child star has died from an apparent overdose. And while I suspect there will be a less-than-overwhelming outpouring of grief from the metal world, it was sure was menschy of the Deftones dudes to utilize the lyrics from Kriss Kross’ “Jump” for the own song “Engine No. 9” in St. Louis last night…

…sort of. I mean, neither member of Kriss Kross actually had anything to do with the writing of the song — Jermaine Dupri wrote it. So it’s not like these lyrics were really a testament to Kelly’s talents. Then again, I guess they’d gotten on stage and done stuff Kelly did have a talent for, like ingesting copious amounts of illegal substances, that probably would have been frowned upon. So how were Chino and company s’posed to pay tribute?
