Amber Carrington Skid Row

The Voice, one of approximately eight trillion American Idol-style shows that I don’t think anyone who reads MetalSucks watches, featured a contestant named Amber Carrington on last night’s live broadcast. And Ms. Carrington was performing Skid Row’s “I Remember You,” when, funny enough, she forgot the words.

Here are the lyrics to the first two verses of the song, which I suspect Carrington was supposed to amalgamate:

Woke up to the sound of pouring rain
The wind would whisper and I’d think of you
And all the tears you cried, that called my name
And when you needed me I came through

I paint a picture of the days gone by
When love went blind and you would make me see
I’d stare a lifetime into your eyes
So that I knew you were there for me
Time after time you were there for me

And this is what she sang:

Woke up to the sound of pouring rain
The words would whisper in my head
And then you left me and smiled and waved
And then I knew that you were there for me
Time after time you were there for me

To Carrington’s credit, she didn’t hesitate for a second as she freestyled her way through the verse, and I’d guess that the majority of the audience didn’t even notice that she made a mistake. Still, there’s no shortage of irony to the fact that she —

  • Forgot the words to a song with the word “remember” in the title
  • That she replaced the word “wind” with the word “word”
  • That she contrasted the phrase “you left me” with the phrase “you were there for me”
