Before there were blogs there were these things called magazines, and the only metal magazine we still get excited about reading every month is DecibelHere’s managing editor Andrew Bonazelli…

Dark Tranquillity have been one of the key figures in Gothenburg melodeath since their inception over 20 years ago. Axl and Vince know the score, bringing you both DT’s meh-but-that’s-OK new video for “Uniformity”and a premiere of the ripping “The Science of Noise” in the last couple of months. As a wise man once said, DT “continue to expertly hit that sweet spot between encephalectomic brutality and orgasm-inducing catchiness,” and we’re not ones to disagree with wise men.

So, in July’s Decibel, we gave props to the Swedish DM vets, not only for the startling achievement of new LP Construct, but its clever callbacks to their turn-of-the-century “weird” period trilogy: Projector, Haven and Damage Done. This comes on the heels of a 9 out of 10 review for Construct, and since its 10 songs aren’t nearly enough, we recruited Dark Tranquillity to the Decibel Flexi Series to unveil the savage slow burn of “Sorrow’s Architect.” Recorded during the Construct sessions, it’s exclusive to the Flexi Series, and on par with anything on that killer record. As always, subscribers will get their fill in the August issue, but if you non-believers hurry, you can grab a copy of the issue with the flexi in our webstore while they’re still available.

The August 2013 issue of Decibel features Amon Amarth, Pig Destroyer, and Death Angel. You can purchase it here. But why not just get a full subscription to ensure that you never miss an issue?
