b5ff2_threedecadesroadrunner_638_0In the past year, Roadrunner has been largely scaled back, and most of the people who made the label what it is don’t work there any more. So the announcement of the upcoming XXX: Three Decades of Roadrunner Records box set is fitting; this is basically a “Roadrunner, Phase I” greatest hits collection. Or, you prefer to be slightly more cynical about it, the resumé to be included with Roadrunner’s obituary.

Because it’s 2013 and incredibly easy to either just compile a set such as this yourself or curate your own set (which presumably does not include Theory of a fucking Deadman) altogether — especially since three of these discs contain songs that come from revered metal albums practically everyone already owns, and the fourth is basically a coaster waiting to happen — the set will also liner notes by Decibel‘s Chris Dick, which will include an overview of the label’s entire history, including interviews with founder Cees Wessels, A&R legend Monte Conner, King Diamond, Max Cavalera, Mikael Åkerfeldt, Joey Jordison, and Matt Heafy.
