Mötley Crüe Planning Farewell Tour, Sort Of

Motley Crue Farewell Tour Maybe

Citing Mick Mars’ ongoing health issues and a desire to “go out on top,” Vince Neil tells Billboard that Mötley Crüe will embark on a farewell tour in the spring of 2014 before throwing in the towel (they’re also apparently working on a final album). And my first thought when reading this assertion was, “Oh, sure, that’s what they all say — look how many farewell tours Kiss have done!” And then I read the part where Neil continues:

“I’m sure in five, 10 years from now we’ll probably do something again together, if other people’s careers don’t get in the way. But it’s not gonna be like a Kiss farewell to the farewell to the farewell to the farewell tour. It won’t be like that. We’re not going to say farewell and then try to get people to come back again in a little while.”

Well, I respect his honesty! I also like how he says “if other people’s careers don’t get in the way” — meaning, not his own. That has to be a dig at Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx and their numerous side projects, right?

In any case, despite Neil’s winded, pizza-grease-and-whiskey-soaked vocals and the fact that Mick Mars is about as mobile as a tree stump aside, modern Mötley still put on a really fun show. I don’t especially feel the need to go see them again, but if for some reason you’ve never crossed that particular activity off your bucket list…
