“Watch” Stomach Earth’s First-Ever Video

There’s something about director David Hall’s deceptively simple video for Stomach Earth’s “Prolong the Death Watch” that’s really disturbing — and it’s not the (artificial) grain in the image or even the frenzied, strobe-like editing. Its the way that certain unsettling images (a woman flapping her jaw as liquid pours from her mouth, a jump cut from that same woman sitting at a table while a man faces a stove to the woman hunched over while the man faces her, etc) recur. Some of these images actually don’t seem all that creepy at first, but as they flash into your eyes over and over again, they become hypnotic in a scary way. If you told me there were subliminal messages in here, I’d half-believe you.

“Prolong the Death Watch” appears on Stomach Earth’s self-titled debut, which is out now on Black Market Activities.
