Maria Brink’s Butt Adorns In This Moment’s “Whore” Single Art

In This Moment’s latest single is the song “Whore,” and they’ve decided to sell this single the way they usually do: with Maria Brink’s body. (When I showed this to Vince, his first comment was, “It’s like In This Moment don’t even care at all anymore, they’re just going for it shamelessly.”)

In This Moment - Whore

Of course, Brink and the band assert that this image is far more than just a simple attempt to lure fans via sex. Brink says in a press release:

“I decided to pose nude for the visual art for ‘Whore’ to evoke a raw vulnerable emotion. The word WHORE written down my back, and the dunce cap symbolize me placing myself on the stake for those who are suffering and I can only hope to encourage at least one person to find the self worth and love they deserve to transcend out of a painful situation into a beautiful one. It is about finding our power and taking a stand.  We are resilient beings and need to realize our incredible strengths. I will not bow down to others perceptions of me; I will only rise in the name of art, love and music.”

I don’t really see how this symbolizes Brink placing herself on the stake for those who are suffering, and it’s kinda weird that Brink would publicly pat herself on the back that way. Although not as weird as the fact that the press release announcing the single also takes a moment to gloat about Brink’s skills as a wordsmith:

“While ‘Whore’ has been getting traction at radio stations across the country, it was more important for the band to create a message that conveys the true intent behind the use of the word.  Singer Maria Brink created the term Women Honoring One another Rising Eternally to give new meaning away from the derogatory connotation of the word.”

You may recall that the last time we heard about this “term” that Brink has created, it was going to be the name of a charity; there’s no mention of the charity in the press release, so I dunno what happened with that. Maybe everyone decided that Maria symbolically placing herself on the stake for those who are suffering was good deed enough.

In any case, I will give this to Brink: she’s right, we do love her for the same reasons we hate her (although that’s still not “reverse psychology,” as she claims that it is). So I appreciate her showing her tush to help me pay my grocery bills this week. You’re a real dame, Maria!!!
