Mutoid-Man-coverSupergroups can either give you a hard one or a resentful limpy.  A lot of times the massive hype surrounding a long-awaited melding of musical minds can yield disappointment, but every so often an unexpected grouping of members from various bands will knock your socks off and tear you a new one.  Mutoid Man appears to be such a sock-knocker that Brooklyn might actually implode tonight upon the band’s live debut.

MM started out as a dynamic duo: prolific Steve Brodsky from Cave In/various solo offerings and can’t-believe-he’s-that-good Converge/All Pigs Must Die drummer Ben Koller.  This pair apparently recorded a forthcoming full-length album entitled Helium Head, which is to be released on November 29 through Magic Bullet/Nonbeliever Records.

Enter big bottom slayer Nick Cageo from up-and-coming Brooklyn power thrash outfit Bröhammer and the Head of Sound at metal venue extraordinaire Saint Vitus Bar.  This gifted bassist rips the low end like a rabid beast tearing the flesh off a fresh kill, and is one helluva nice guy to boot.  Cageo is now fully on board as a permanent member of the Mutoid Man space shuttle freight train and will perform live with Brodsky and Koller TONIGHT at the aforementioned Saint Vitus Bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with Godmaker and Descender opening.

If you are a fan of raucous, take-no-prisoners RAWK — and seriously, who isn’t? — get your cute lil’ butt over to Vitus tonight and witness the first show by what is guaranteed to be a more-than-worthy new entry into the heavy music scene.

But don’t just take my word or the reputation of the band’s members for it — have a listen to short but sweet punch-packer “Gnarcissist” and you’ll see what I’m talkin’ bout:

Amirite or amirite?!?!?  See you tonight.
