The group’s name — which represents the method of torture and execution in Nordic mythology, performed by cutting the ribs of the victim by the spine, breaking the ribs so they resembled blood-stained wings was — chosen due to the members’ Scandinavian roots,

Whoa! A band with a name inspired by such brutality should have the music to match, and thankfully that is most certainly the case here. Check out new song “Death Sub Zero” at the band’s Facebook page. Kinda reminds me of a mix of Bloodbath, old Morbid Angel, and something definitively heavier/grindier that I can’t quite put my finger. I like.

No word on a release date for the first Blood Eagle album yet. The band will make their live debut on November 7 at the Aalborg Metal Festival. Here’s the lineup, for those curious:

Michael Olsson: Vocals
Mircea Gabriel Eftemie (Mnemic) – Guitar
Franz Hellboss (ex-Volbeat, Illdisposed) – Guitar
Mikael Ehlert (ex-Hatesphere) – Bass
Morten Toft Hansen (ex-Hatesphere, Raunchy) – Drums
