Get Ready to Start Hearing Terrible Megadeth Songs in Commercials

Megadeth - Pooper Collider Album Cover

Metal Insider reports that despite the fact that everyone found Super Collider to be roughly as enjoyable as a prostate exam performed by Andre the Giant, “Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Warner Music, announced today that they’ve signed a worldwide publishing deal with Dave Mustaine – for material including Super Collider.” And while your initial reaction to such news may be “Okay whatever,” as mine was, the next part of MI’s report may very well induce a panic attack.

See, the deal doesn’t cover old ‘Deth classics like “Symphony of Destruction” or “Peace Sells” — y’know, anthems that you actually wouldn’t mind hearing in commercials and shit. It only covers Super Collider and all future Megadeth material. So what does that mean? Explains Insider:

“First of all, get ready to hear ‘Super Collider’ more. Maybe for an auto body shop ad? Secondly, this could dictate the future direction of Megadeth music. While some fans might not have liked the more commercial direction of the album, the very reason someone signs a publishing deal is to exploit their music…. In short, get ready for more radio friendly (or ad-friendly) music from Megadeth.”

The Metal Insiderers are very smart people, so even though they’re just hypothesizing here, the mere fact that this occurred to them is not give me nightmares. I was really hoping Mustaine would take the criticism of Super Collider to heart — or at least notice that it’s not selling as well as he wanted it to — and make another comeback album for the next go ’round. If we get Super Collider II: Collisons More Super instead… oy yoy yoy.
