Chris Holmes Deported

Chris Holmes, former guitarist for both W.A.S.P. and W.A.S., legendary director of The Los Angeles Aquatic Entertainment Society, and recent recipient of the  MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for his solo clips “They All Lie and Cheat” and “Way to Be,” is expatriating, reports Sleaze Roxx.

Sarah Holmes, Chris’ wife and manager, offered the following explanation, which I have interspersed with my own thoughts:

“The metal scene in Europe is a very healthy place for rock right now…”

Despite expectations that it might be a very healthy place for for hip-hop, country music, and klezmer.

“…lots of bands popping up everywhere of the likes of Ghost, Hardcore Superstar…”

Hardcore Superstar did, in fact, only recently pop up with their 1998 debut album, It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll.

“…Sabaton…”

Another fresh new band who appeared on the scene a mere nine years ago!

“…and Rammstein.”

Yet ANOTHER European overnight sensation (in 1995, when they released their first album, Herzeleid)!

“We have been working on moving to Europe since early last year and now we feel its time to do so as we have achieved our goals that we have set out to do here.”

Although I was previously unaware that failing to get signed or be remembered for anything besides getting blotto in a pool while your poor mother is forced to watch could be considered “goals,” I’m thrilled to hear it nonetheless!

“Chris is overwhelmed with the feedback he has received from the fans out there wanting him to come to Europe.”

Indeed, dealing with crowds of 1-2 people can be quite overwhelming.

“I have to say that they will not be disappointed.”

She literally HAS to say that. It’s in her contract.

“They are in for a treat, he has plans to tour so that will be something to look forward to.”

Said with all the enthusiasm of someone preparing for a visit from their Aunt Sadie.

All kidding aside, I wish the Holmes family all the best. Europe is generally far more welcoming to both talents that are underappreciated in America (see: Jerry Lewis, Alex Kelly) and alcoholics, so I’m sure Chris will be very happy there.
