Stream The First New Junius Song in Three Years

Junius - Days of the Fallen Sun

Junius have released so many EPs and splits over the span of their career that it’s hard to believe Days of the Fallen Sun, out February 18 on Prosthetic, is the first new Junius music we’re getting in nearly three years. But so it is. And this is cause for celebration, because we could all use a little more Junius in our lives; the dramatic/atmospheric/cinematic “Morrissey metal” band hits that perfect sweet spot of melancholy and ROCK.

Pitchfork has the stream of a new song called “Forgiving the Cleansing Meteor.” Here’s what they’ve got to say about it:

The piece that leads into the EP’s closer, the gorgeous “Forgiving the Cleansing Meteor,” damages a slow choral swell with a sampled conflagration and fades into eerie quiet. “Forgiving” follows the same thematic plan by embracing the renewal of apocalypse, of a meteor essentially hitting the reset button. At the start, there’s a sense of dread: a forlorn guitar, anxious artillery drums, drifting lyrics about lives lost and sacrifice and flames. But it all surges ahead at the end, a phoenix emerging to proclaim, in harmony, “We are the light. We are the fire.”

Heady! Epic! And we certainly wouldn’t expect anything less from Junius. Check out the song here.

The EP’s pending arrival also means they’ll be bringing their enthralling and intense live show on the road: they’re touring Europe in February then finishing up the month with a few shows on the U.S. East Coast, the last of which is in Brooklyn with Caspian and A Storm of Light. Dates:
