Preview of Studio Pass Kurt Ballou

Given the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Eyal Levi from Audiohammer Studios’ recent clinics on creativeLIVE, and given that pretty much every extreme music fan in the world agrees that Kurt Ballou is THE MAN, this news ought to have you all jumping for joy: on February 3 and 4, 2014, Gear Gods, the only website for musicians in the heavy music community, will team up with creativeLive, the internet’s leading purveyor of free live online workshops taught by world-class experts, to present Studio Pass: Kurt Ballou!

In this two-day course, Kurt Ballou, guitarist for Converge and prolific producer of bands such as Skeletonwitch, Cave In, High on Fire, and Kvelertak, will take you behind-the-scenes of Godcity Studios to show you exactly how the magic happens. This all-access studio pass will immerse you in every aspect of Kurt’s distinctive sound — from choosing and setting up gear, to tracking and mixing.

Kurt will show you the basic and advanced techniques he uses in his studio every day, and teach you how to apply them to your own recording — regardless of whether you’re working in a studio or at home with a DIY setup. Using anecdotes from his years behind the board, Kurt will also teach you his best practices for working with bands to extract the best and most inventive sounds.

As a special sneak preview of what the class has in store, Gear Gods has unveiled a clip of Kurt talking about how he achieves his signature bass tone. Check it out below. Also be sure to watch the video he released last week about how to mic a bass cab in the studio.
