Dave Mustaine Denies Responsibility for Jason Newsted Being Booted Off Australian Tour; Newsted Announces Announcement
Yesterday, the organizers of Australia’s traveling festival, Soundwave, announced that Jason Newsted would no longer be playing the tour “at the request of Megadeth,” and everybody wondered what the sweet fuckity fuck was going on, because Mustaine and Newsted are supposed to be buds (see above photo).
But now Megadeth is denying having anything to do with Newsted getting kicked off the trek. In a statement released to ABC News Radio, Megadeth tour manager Jim Carroccio, says:
“Megadeth did not have anything to do with having Jason Newsted removed from the lineup on Megadeth’s upcoming Australian tour. Dave Mustaine is not responsible for booting Newsted off [the Soundwave festival]. Dave did not put him on the bill and did not take him off the bill.
“Dave submitted a list of bands he was comfortable with and the promoter ignored the list. Dave and Jason are friends [and] this has blown up into something silly.”
But… why would the Soundwave people say Megadeth wanted Newsted off the bill if Megadeth didn’t want Newsted off the bill? What could they possibly have to gain? Make sure it doesn’t look like it’s their fault? Is Newsted’s cancellation that much of a disappointment to Australians that blame had to placed at all? Couldn’t they have just said “Newsted has to cancel due to unforeseeable personal family circumstances” or whatever?
Meanwhile, Newsted has released a statement promising a statement on his Facebook page:
I am beyond curious to hear what Newsted has to say about all of this. And if he backs up Mustaine’s story, I really wanna hear what the Soundwave organizers have to say about that.
