Triptykon and H.R. Giger Reunite for Melana Chasmata Album Art

Has it been four years since Triptykon’s Eparistera Daimones already? Yikes. Time flies when you’re mired in evil.

ANYWAY, Triptykon have, at last, announced details of their second album. It’s called Melana Chasmata, which apparently means  “black, deep depressions/valleys.” Funny enough, Melana Chasmata was also the name of the hooker to whom I lost my virginity. Hm.

ANYWAY, as my headline says, Triptykon will once again utilize art by the great H.R. Giger for their album art — specifically, a 1975 piece called “Mordor VII” for the front cover, and a 1972 piece called “Landschaft XVI” for the gatefold.

The announcement goes on to gloat:

“Following Eparistera Daimones, the group began to make arrangements for an entirely different cover for the second album. Completely unexpectedly, HR Giger approached Tom Gabriel Warrior in October of 2011 to express his appreciation of how Triptykon had used his art on the first album and to propose a continuation of the artistic collaboration. This development thus marks the first time any musical artist has worked with HR Giger on three albums (Celtic Frost’s To Mega Therion, and Triptykon’s Eparistera Daimones and Melana Chasmata), and it commemorates a collaboration that has now lasted for 30 years.”

Translation: genius attracts genius.

Melana Chasmata comes out April 15 via Century Media Records/Prowling Death Records Ltd.
