The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium

Once upon a time The Mars Volta, formed from the ashes of At The Drive In, released an absolutely phenomenal and groundbreaking album that pushed all sorts of boundaries and captured the imaginations of prog weirdos the world over. Then they released a bunch of albums that mostly made us all just want to go back and listen to that first album again. As far as I know they’re still doing that, although, honestly, I’ve stopped paying attention. (update: they went on hiatus / broke up in 2012)

Cvlt Nation has posted a pro-shot video filmed in London in 2003 of The Mars Volta playing the wonderfully complex yet remarkably accessible De-Loused in the Comatorium in full. I saw the band on this tour in Detroit, and I primarily remember three things about that show: 1) How fucking awesome it was, just completely LOSING it in the pit, 2) How fucking HOT it was inside Saint Andrews Hall, 3) The Italian exchange student who came with us saying after the show was over, “Yes, I enjoyed the… how you say… mosh-pitting!”

Watch the video below. May you enjoy lots of mosh-pitting at your desk.
