Asking Alexandria’s Cover of “Closer” Will Make You Wanna Shove Nine Inch Nails in Your Ears

Alexandria ReznorAsking Alexandria have released a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ classic “Closer,” and, for about two minutes, it’s pretty much the best thing the band has ever done (and seems likely to retain that title until the group breaks up) — although I would never choose it over the original, I certainly can’t accuse it of being “bad,” either, because it sounds more or less exactly like the original. I mean, they removed two notes from the main synth part (I guess because the part was too complicated for them to play otherwise?), and vocalist/author Danny Worsnop’s vocal delivery is a little different from Trent Reznor’s, but it’s still wholly recognizable as “Closer,” and wholly unrecognizable as anything involving Asking Alexandria.

Unfortunately, at the 2:08 mark, it turns into Asking Alexandria’s usual eighth rate metalcore crap, and at that point, you may feel compelled to go stick your head in the oven. But remember, you can always just turn it off instead.

Asking Alexandria’s cover of “Closer” will appear on Fearless Records’ Punk Goes Pop, Volume 2… wait a minute. “Punk goes pop”? Fuck are Asking Alexandria doing on it, then? Was the comp put together by this dude?

Anyway, it’s out April 1.
