Sevendust’s “Black” Gets Acoustified

Sevendust - Time Travelers & Bonfires

I know this is statement is gonna seem like blasphemy to my fellow Sevendust fans, but “Black” has never been one of my favorite 7D songs, despite being one of the breakout songs from their 1997 debut and a staple of their live set pretty much ever since. I don’t dislike the song by any means — I just don’t get as into it as other 7D admirers seem to. There are other tracks in the band’s catalog I’d much rather hear.

So it says something that I really, really dig the new acoustic version of the song, from the band’s upcoming, crowdfunded album of acoustic re-recordings, Time Travelers & Bonfires. This song isn’t an obvious choice for the acoustic treatment, but the band has struck the right balance between reinvention and familiarity; as Garth Algar might say, “We’re listening to ‘Black’… only that’s not ‘Black.’ Isn’t that weird?” Yes. Delightfully so.

Listen to the new “Black” over at Loudwire. Time Travelers & Bonfires  comes out April 15. The band is doing an acoustic tour to support the release; dates are below, once again, courtesy of The Wire Which is Loud:
