The above comment was posted about the music video for Mina Caputo’s song “Identity,” released last summer. That’s pretty inspiring, right? Hopefully “detrascion” is just one of many.

Life of Agony will play their first live show since 2011 at the Alcatraz Hard Rock & Metal Festival in Kortrijk, Belgium on August 8th. It won’t be the band’s first show since Keith became Mina (watch some 2011 fan footage), but she’s changed and progressed a whole lot since 2011. Will Life of Agony fans embrace Mina’s new identity? I think they probably will.

It’d be great if Mina’s gender identity weren’t always the story with Life of Agony but it still seems to be very much relevant in metal, a sub-culture whose record on sexual tolerance is only slightly better than that of professional sports. Bassist Alan Robert acknowledges as much in the statement he released about the decision to re-group for the show in Belgium:

We’ve helped so many people around the world cope with their emotional struggles through our music, it was time to get back out there. Our songs connect with people on an emotional level because they were written out of real pain and hardship. It doesn’t matter if you’re white, black, blue, green, gay, straight, trans or whatever. Our fans know it comes from a real place and have stood by us. We’ve always worn our hearts on our sleeves. That is just who we are and that is something that will never change.

No word yet on any additional Life of Agony dates, but we’ll keep you posted. It’ll be great to have Life of Agony back.
