Lesser Key

The verdict has been handed down: ex-Tool bassist Paul D’Amour’s new band Lesser Key sounds a whole lot like Tool! And that is a good thing. Especially since the likelihood of getting new Tool music any time soon is basically nil. It doesn’t hurt that vocalist has a very Maynard-like quality to his voice, either.

Reminder: D’Amour was involved in creating early Tool classics such as “Sober,” “Prison Sex,” “Ænema” and “Stinkfist.” That’s an impressive résumé! One could even argue those were Tool’s biggest individual songs ever.

So, after getting to hear samples of these tunes last month, here’s the entire album. I’m just listening to it for the first time right now along with you, but so far I really like what I’m hearing. If these songs were on Tool’s next album I don’t think anyone would complain.

Lesser Key is out today via Sumerian; order it here, stream it below, and tell us what you think.
