Slash has long-cited Aerosmith as one of his favorite bands of all time, so I’m sure he’s earnestly delighted to be touring with them this summer, and I’m sure he was earnestly delighted to be asked to play “Mama Kin” (which Guns N’ Roses covered on GN’R Lies) and The Yardbirds’ “Train Kept A-Rollin’”  (which he’s played with them before) with them at the press event announcing the tour yesterday. And he certainly appeared to be earnestly delighted when Joe Perry started an impromptu jam of “Welcome to the Jungle” after the conclusion of “Mama Kin.”

Sadly, I can’t make out Slash’s face when Steven Tyler changes the lyrics to “Jungle” from this…

Welcome to the jungle
We’ve got fun ‘n’ games
We got everything you want
Honey, we know the names

…to this:

Welcome to the jungle
Gunnasendee-ee
Whatchugottofeeluhmove
But you wanna go back with me

But I hope Slash was earnestly not disappointed. I mean, you can’t blame Tyler for changing the lyrics so that he could better relate to them. Steven Tyler talking about living on the streets of Los Angeles? Not believable. Steven Tyler babbling something incoherent yet distinctly sexual? Now THAT’S the Aerosmith singer we all know and love!
