5th Annual GWAR-B-Q

As previously announced, the fifth annual GWAR-B-Q will take place on August 16 at Hadad’s Water Park in Richmond, VA, despite the recent death of GWAR vocalist Dave Brockie (better known to some as Oderus Urungus). Which is just the way Brockie would have wanted it! That dude loved to party. I can’t imagine it being his desire for anyone to mope around on his account.

Now we’ve got the first details about the event to share with you! Hatebreed will headline this year’s ‘Q; on bands on the bill include Body Count, Kepone (featuring former GWAR bassist Beefcake the Mighty), and The Meatmen. Presumably more bands will be announced soon, but that’s obviously a very strong start. Additionally, the press release promises that “There will be more meat than ever, boatloads of  ‘GWAR-B-Q’ sauce to slather all over it, GWAR’s new beer ‘Killsner’ to wash it down your bottomless and gaping feed-hole, as well as an infinite number of port-o-john vomitorium kissing booths for full body evacuation.” Just like when my family used to vacation in the Hamptons!

Furthermore — also as previously announced — there will be a public memorial for Brockie on August 15 (the day before the show) from 4-7 pm Hadad’s Lake. It will include a viking funeral pyre for Oderus! Which is pretty much the most metal send-off there is.

Here’s a video ad for the event:
