Pump Up the Jam: Mastodon Premiere “Chimes at Midnight” Video

Although the band had been performing the track during their recent tour with Gojira and Kvelertak for, many, if not most, of us, this new video is our first chance to hear Mastodon’s “Chimes at Midnight” — and it’s the first chance for all of us to hear the studio version.

So how does it sound? Like a hybrid of the material from Crack the Skye and The Hunter, with just a smidge of Blood Mountain to give fans like me hope that maybe the band will make something really heavy and aggro again some day. Although, contradictorily enough, my favorite part is the dreamy, almost hopeless sounding guitars that bookend the track.
