Darkest Hour’s Newest Jam “Rapture in Exile” Thrashes Hard

Darkest Hour“Wasteland,” the first song we heard from Darkest Hour’s self-titled new album, ripped all sorts of faces. It was really different for the band, a big step forward. So how does their newest new song, “Rapture in Exile,” compare to that one?

It’s definitely more along the lines of what you’d expect from Darkest Hour — plenty of thrashy riffs and Swede worship — but I think it’s still new territory for DH. These guys have clearly tried their damnedest to change up the formula this time around, whatwith a new record label, new producer, new lineup, and now on their eighth studio album and nearly 20th (!) year in existence.

We also now know where the phrase “Fuck waiting around to die” — which we had previously thought was the name of the new album — comes from; it’s a lyric from this song! The band’s been playing it live on the Rockstar Mayhem Tour, which kicked off last week, and the footage in the video accompanying the “Rapture in Exile” premiere was filmed at the tour’s opening show July 5th in San Bernardino, CA. Darkest Hour comes out on August 5th via Sumerian Records; order here.
