eyal levi and ryan clarkDefine “amazing opportunity.”

Our good friend Eyal Levi from Audiohammer Studios (Battlecross, The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel) is teaching a new half-day course on CreativeLive this Friday, July 25 from 12-4 pm PST. Entitled “Composing Metal Melodies and Harmonies” and featuring special guest Ryan Clark (Demon Hunter), this sounds like an amazing companion piece to Eyal’s previous course, “Mastering Metal Songwriting.” According to a press release, the course will cover “the basics of melodies, how to write them, place them and evaluate them. You’ll learn how to construct a melody, how melodies and harmonies interact, call and response, countermelodies, what to do when your melody isn’t working, key signature changes, how to create tension and resolution, and more.”

I maintain that anyone who is or aspires to be in a successful (or even just, y’know, good) metal band NEEDS to watch this course. And it’s FREE, so you really have no excuse whatsoever not to.

But here’s where shit gets real: you can submit a song for Eyal and Ryan to critique live during the course. I mean, come ON. That’s is awesome. That is like a getting a personal class in songwriting from two dudes who between them have roughly thirty years of experience as working composers and musicians. Do you know how many Attack Attack! concerts most people would willingly sit through for a chance like this? And they’re offering it you for free. If you don’t go for this, you’re a schmuck.

You have to submit your song by 9 am PST this Friday, July 25, though — so don’t dawdle! Go here to register. Scroll to the bottom of the page to learn how to submit your song.
