Old Man Gloom Have a Gift For You

Why are they called Old Man Gloom when they make so many people so very happy?

The group’s latest gift to the world: not only are they readying a new album, but they’re readying a MOVIE, too! Produced and directed by Kenneth Thomas (who previously worked with OMG’s Aaron Turner on a project for his old band, Isis), the film is called Here is a Gift for You, and is scheduled for release in the autumn, just in time to get some Oscar attention (kidding… although that would be awesome). Based on the trailer (below), the movie appears to be part documentary, part concert film, and part footage of Zozobra burning. Which is an image that works on multiple levels: Zozobra is an annual event at which “Old Man Gloom” is burned in effigy, and it’s the name of a band that features Old Man Gloom bassist Caleb Scofield. My mind is already blown.

No word yet on an exact release date for the movie or the album, but we’ll keep you posted…
