Here’s the Cover Artwork for At the Gates’ Forthcoming New Album At War with Reality

At the Gates - At War with RealityAs we learned last week, At the Gates’ long-awaited reunion album will be called At War with Reality and will come out on October 28th via Century Media.

Now the band’s revealed the album’s Costin Chioreanu-designed cover artwork via press release and it’s… pretty cool, I guess. It’s a neat enough image, I just find it really difficult to get excited about cover artwork in this day and age, when the biggest I’m ever going to see it is embedded right here in this article, and thereafter only as a tiny thumbnail on my phone’s iTunes library. No disrespect to Chioreanu and all the other fine album artists out there, that’s just reality… and there’s no sense in being at war with it (rimshot!). Perhaps you physical album-buying types find this kind of announcement more exciting than me, though.

Here’s Tomas Lindberg on the lyrical concepts of the album, represented in its artwork:

The concept of ‘At War with Reality’ is based on the literary genre called ‘Magic Realism’. The main style within this genre is the notion that ‘reality’ is ever-changing, and needs to be constantly re-discovered and re-conquered. We felt that Costin’s artwork style would be the perfect visual contribution to this album, so he became the natural choice…

So… can we have some new music already, please?
