Videos: Corey Taylor, Mike Portnoy, Charlie Benante and Other Metal Cebrities Taking the A.L.S. Ice Bucket Challenge

Until now I’ve purposely avoided posting about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. On one hand, $8.6 million was raised in a single day for A.L.S., also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, through the awareness spread by this viral marketing campaign, and that number’s impossible to fuck with. It’s a worthy cause if ever there was one. On the other hand, I think we can all agree it’s gotten kind of annoying and seems to have turned into a press stunt for the sake of a press stunt; when marketing execs in board rooms are suggesting their clients participate to get extra press, you know a trend’s jumped the shark.

So, this is an experiment: will this post get tons of traffic because of its celebrity-packed headline and of-the-moment topic? I will post an update in an hour and let you all know. At the very worst, hopefully it still spreads awareness and raises more funds for the A.L.S. cause. [UPDATE, 11:30am EDT: About as popular as any normal post on this website, aka not viral. -Ed.]
