Exclusive Track Premiere: Secrets of the Sky, “The Star”

Secrets of the Sky / Godhunter - GHOSTSSecrets of the Sky’s impressive 2013 album To Sail Black Waters placed towards the top of both Anso DF’s and Excretakano’s year-end lists, and those guys know a thing or five about good metal so surely they must be onto something, yeah? Absolutely: the band’s “mastery of every blackened twist, every doomy thrum, every deathly roar and transcendental melody” was a true work of art and a welcome treat for these jaded ears.

Just a year later Secrets of the Sky return with the confusingly typset GH/0ST:S, a split LP with Godhunter that contains two tracks from each band. Invisible Oranges shared one of Godhunter’s contributions earlier this month, and today we give you Secrets of the Sky’s “The Star,” meaning we’ve now heard half of all the music on the album. Godhunter and Secrets of the Sky are very different bands, but they provide the perfect foil for one another, the yin and yang, Godhunter’s stoney, sludged out riffs balanced out by Secrets of the Sky’s delicate splendor. Stream “Star” below; it’s as fantastic as anything the band’s ever done.

GH/0ST:S comes out on September 9th via The Compound and can be pre-ordered here.
