Exodus - Blood in Blood OutThe anticipation for Exodus’s new record Blood In, Blood Out is as great as it’s been for any Exodus record in a long time. For one, it’ll be their first album with new-old vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza since 2004’s Tempo of the Damned after Rob Dukes made his, um, exodus from the band this summer. Then there’s all the special guests that’ll appear on the album: Testament vocalist Chuck Billy, producer Dan the Automator (also of the Gorillaz), and none other than Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, who’s been performing with Exodus sporadically over the past year and recently told Rolling Stone he’d be contributing a guest solo to the album. Finally, there’s the fact that Exodus axe-slinger Gary Holt has been doing the same for Slayer for the past several years, which has surely raised Exodus’s profile.

Today we get to hear “Salt the Wound,” the song with Hammett’s solo. The song totally rips — Holt riffs up the wazoo — and you’ll know Hammett’s contribution the moment you hear it. If I’m being honest I think I slightly prefer Dukes as a vocalist to Souza, but I know I’m probably in the minority on that one, and Zetro’s piercing cry does have a certain classic appeal to it. Check the song out below, and pre-order Blood In, Blood Out before it comes out on October 14th via Nuclear Blast.
