Meshuggah / Dream Theater DVDsTwo progressive metal titans, Meshuggah and Dream Theater, will both be releasing live concert DVD/BluRay sets on September 30th, the former’s Breaking the Fourth Wall: Live From the Boston Opera House, and the latter’s The Ophidian Trek. It’s probably just a coincidence, but man, that’s a shitty decision to have to make if you’re strapped for shekels and can only afford one: better start saving money buying Natty Ice instead of Sierra Nevada pronto. I realize these bands are pretty different from one another, but I can’t be the only one who loves both.

Seemingly aware of the competition, both released full tracks from their respective DVDs yesterday, Meshuggah with their modern-day classic “Do Not Look Down” and Dream Theater with a more classic-day-classic, “Strange Deja Vu” from 1999’s Scenes From a Memory. From a pure production value standpoint Dream Theater’s definitely got Meshuggah beat here, but there’s no denying that Meshuggah’s show and audience has way more energy. Like a proud parent, of course I love them both equally. Whatchoo think?
