Fun with Google Autocomplete and Metal

0

When you’re tired of being bombarded with your friends’ baby pictures on Facebook and their mundane dinner pictures on Instagram, Google’s search Autocomplete feature is always a fun time-killer in a pinch,

It can also provide a fascinating look into the minds of Americans as a whole. What are people typing into Google when they seek out information about their favorite (or least favorite) bands??

Below, some choice screen caps from a few minutes of Google Autocomplete fun. These are 100% real, not edited in any way. Enjoy!

Sorry, Mr. Mustaine, but you’ll never step out from under Metallica’s shadow:

All of these scenarios are entirely plausible when you think about it:

Sorry, Anthrax, the disease soundly wins the SEO battle with your band:

Someone please follow up by Googling the phrase “Is Avenged Sevenfold good” and then report back here with the scintillating discussions found therein:

Apparently even the people who hate Five Finger Death Punch aren’t above homophobia:

Whoa, dark:

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 11.54.11 AM

Makes much more sense than the above:

The whole “Is ___ Christian” thing must be moms very carefully and painstakingly researching their young teenage sons’ newfound taste in music, right?

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 11.54.31 AM

YES to both:

More like “DOES Periphery djent?” amirite???

Half Indian and half Jewish, as it turns out: From Misha himself via the MS comments: “Fully Jewish, non practicing. Parents from Mauritius. Silly google!”

I often wonder the same despite having known the guy since we were five years old:

I would just love to meet the many people who Google “Is ____ good” and form their opinions from the results therein:

These are all good questions! Doc Coyle might have some answers:

At least people aren’t wondering if deathcore is dead yet (see above):

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 11.59.00 AM

Guy just learning guitar Googles “Is metalcore hard to play?” Dammit. Guy Googles “Is deathcore hard to play?” Shit. “Is djent hard to play?” SCORE!

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 11.59.25 AM

Maybe the guy above should’ve just kept Googling sub-genres:

I’ll bet you can closely guess what comes up when you port this search over to Google Images:

Because going to Google and typing “Randy Blythe Instagram” is so much easier than just searching for his profile on, ya know, INSTAGRAM ITSELF:

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 12.01.17 PMBands really want to sign to Century Media Records…

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 12.29.35 PM

… while they’re apparently primarily concerned with stalking Brian Slagel…

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 12.29.06 PM

… and they have some very bizarre theories about Sumerian:

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 12.28.54 PM

Haha, if Google is to believe then Operation BABYMETAL has been a big success!

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 12.32.17 PM

If I ever have a need for metal injection molding, I sure hope they blare Opeth at the factory:

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 12.32.32 PM

Would’ve expected “van flip” to appear here, but alas:

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 12.32.48 PM

Would totally hang out at The PRP Institute for Metal if such a thing existed:

Now it’s your turn: what did I miss? Fun for days.
